The Mighty Hudson

Here in New York, we've had record rainfall for the past few weeks and it has swelled rivers and streams beyond their beds. One way to alleviate the flooding is to open floodgates at dams like the dam in South Glens Falls where five of the seven gates stood open as of yesterday.
Now, there is a parking lot which looks over the Hudson Falls cascade of the Hudson River where there is a canoe portage that I've visited many times while wishing for a better view of the lower cascades. Quite by accident, I pulled into the parking lot of a nearby industry hoping to get a better angle and came upon a sign that said "Canoe Portage" at the top of a little rock cut road. It led me down to a spot below the falls which I never knew existed even though I've lived here in the area all my life, where people put in to continue their journey down the river though no one would have dared today. If I had been more of a sportsperson I would have figured out that there must have been another spot to connect to the one at the top of the falls, ah me.
You can have your fancy cars, your big stereos, your spa treatments...to me, getting shots like this after so long makes me feel truly rich.

EDIT: This cascade has the highest drop in feet on the entire Hudson River.
